About Alpha Omega Epsilon

Alpha Omega Epsilon is a professional engineering sorority dedicated to supporting women in their educational and professional lives. Alpha Omega Epsilon works to create friendship, fellowship and sisterhood among women who often find themselves isolated in a male-dominated profession.  The sisters of Alpha Omega Epsilon bond through both engineering-related and social activities, creating a well-rounded and close-knit atmosphere.  While very professionally-minded, the members of  also place a high value on friendship.

The Georgia Tech chapter of Alpha Omega Epsilon (GT AOmegaE for short) accepts as members women undergraduate students in all Georgia Tech engineering majors, as well as computer science majors.

International Organization History

(quoted from the official sorority webpage at www.aoesorority.org)

Alpha Omega Epsilon is a professional and social sorority composed of female students and alumnae in engineering and the sciences. The sorority was founded on November 13, 1983, and four months later, on March 22, 1984 became a recognized organization on the Marquette University Campus. The idea of uniting female engineers of all curricula spread to other campuses. As a result we have many chapters in the USA and Canada and new colonies developing.

The Sisters of Alpha Omega Epsilon promote ideals and objectives that hope to further the advancement of female engineers, while at the same time developing bonds of lifelong friendships. Alpha Omega Epsilon strives for scholarship and academic achievement. The sisters create a friendly, warm atmosphere where integrity, character, and self-confidence can foster. The sorority hopes to enlighten female engineers to the career opportunities available. Alpha Omega Epsilon encourages ties with other Greek organizations, leads to the discovery of additional extracurricular activities, and adis in pursuing contacts with engineers in industry.

The Sisters of Alpha Omega Epsilon are proud of the principles the organization stands for, and always welcome young women who can share in the dreams and reap the benefits that Alpha Omega Epsilon has to offer. Alpha Omega Epsilon, as a young organization, allows each member to play a significant part in realizing the group's future goals.

Chapter History

During the summer of 2004, the founders of the Georgia Tech Colony of AOE met with the common interest of starting an engineering sorority at Georgia Tech. They worked hard, gathering materials and members over the summer to petition for a colony on campus. As with all fledgling organizations, they had their setbacks, but they triumphed on August 28, 2004 by inducting eight founding members. The founders have high expectations and goals for the Georgia Tech Colony of AOE, and petitioned the international organization to found a chapter in May 2004. In October 2004, the colony began philanthropic work with the Atlanta Humane Society. In February 2006, the Georgia Tech Colony of AOE was officially inducted as the Sigma Chapter of Alpha Omega Epsilon.

Every semester, the Sigma Chapter of Alpha Omega Epsilon participates in numerous professional and social events. During 2005, our professional events included a presentation by the women engineers who worked on the Georgia Aquarium. We held sisterhood events such as birthday nights and Formal. We volunteered with the Atlanta Humane Society and Team Buzz and also sent members to the AOE International Convention in Toronto.
